The Gift of Love

How do you feel when you go to visit the Blessed Sacrament?  Is it a commitment of time you are fulfilling or does it come from desire?  Is it something that has to be done or do you look forward to it with anticipation?  When you leave are you glad your time is completed or do you wish you could stay longer?  Do you leave feeling burdened by your other commitments or are you relaxed and ready to face what is ahead?  We know what the right answers are but is that how we truly feel?  These are questions we should ask ourselves occasionally when we are examining our conscience.  Let’s face it God already knows how we feel so we would do ourselves a favor by recognizing how we really feel.

Jesus has given us so many wonderful gifts and one of them is Himself.  There He is – Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity – in the Blessed Sacrament.  He waits to spend time with us.  He is delighted with our company because of His great love for us.  He longs for us to be with Him and to have fellowship with Him.  He loves us that much.  Do you find that hard to understand?  Try comparing it to falling in love.  When a person falls in love with another person they just can’t seem to spend enough time with that person.  They want to be with them all the time.  They look forward with anticipation to the time when they will be together and when they separate they are already looking forward to the next time they will be together.  They share all their feelings and dreams with that person.  They miss them when they are not in their presence.  They think about them constantly.  Their heart yearns to be with them.  That is how God feels about us and we should feel the same way about Him.

Conchita said, “… at every beating of my heart I look for you; at every breath, and at every pulsation of my heart, I ardently long for you, and offer to you my love and my life.  The Tabernacle is my Treasure and, far or near, my eyes never lose sight of it, for it contains the God of Love.”

Oh, how we should long to feel the same way.  Strive today to develop that feeling and lavish your love on our Lord.  Go to the Blessed Sacrament and pour out your heart to Him.  Tell Him of your love, your pain, your sadness, your anger, your joys and every other thing that fills your life.  He waits for you like a lover.  He waits with open arms to embrace you and fill you with all that He has to give.  Desire to spend time with Him.  Let His love be poured into you so that you can love others with His love.  This is the gift of the Blessed Sacrament.  It is truly a gift beyond compare.
